Recorded in the wee hours at Middlefarm studios with dear friend Peter Miles after a night of unsuccessful pushing and prodding of another track. This was an impromptu ditty that I never intended to record but had written whilst at the studio. This was a rough take, complete with snotty nose and a whisky... but we couldn't beat the vibe the first time round so kept it.
The song is about someone gentle who helped me recover myself by showing me great kindness after a difficult time.
lyrics
I stayed over and you kissed me on the head in the morning
I could be in your bed for a week talking eating and yawning
No I don't know you that well but I intend to get to
You haven't seen my secret side but I intend to let you...
Into the deep, I talk in my sleep, I have dreams like the rest do
but the best one yet is...
You make the best fried breakfast in the whole of Dalston
but I'm way out West writing songs on the Devon coast and
I'm keen to see what we could be if we put our heads together
but I'm only slightly shy to do so, coz there's no question of whether I'll
Fall into you, but I swear not to bruise
I've got scars like the rest do and I'll never be brand new
I've got two left feet and I sing in the street
I'm often easily defeated and I'm messy when I eat
I've been real lost and I've danced poles
I've got bad habits and rabbit holes and I've got
Secrets like the rest do
But the best one yet is...
you
As this grows, I realise
that all my scars and downfalls were only arrows.
As this grows, I realise
that all my scars
were only arrows.

XTC had their moment in time...this recording extends it...Full of small, tight , quirky songs it juz rolls along. Recommended but maybe only for XTC fans.. cwhitney
This album has been a constant daily companion to me since this past summer. I almost feel guilty waiting this long to purchase the CD itself.
This is a new classic in my collection, something that I will probably go back to for the rest of my life. Darren Douglas Danahy

Somehow I missed this one when it came out. Better late than never. Everything Martin releases is a gem including this one. Strong melodies, very good lyrics, and of course Martin's playing and singing! norm tandberg
